Celebrate Earth Day with Bamboo April 22

Come celebrate Earth Day at the Garden's Bamboo Festival. Learn from experts about bamboo in your garden and check out varieties for sale. Attend a workshop on how to build a bike, a kite, and a garden shed – all from bamboo. Long-time Garden member Stella Chien will give a talk on the role of bamboo in Chinese culture, and Puget Sound Sumi artists will show you how to paint bamboo, a fun experience for all, including children. This special spring event is not to be missed.
12 pm to 4:30 pm on April 22nd.

"How does bamboo improve on hardwood?  Cut down a hardwood tree and it’s gone.  It will take several decades for another to grow in its place; it can take a century for a forest to grow back after cutting. But bamboo is a grass, not a tree.  Under the right conditions, it can grow a full meter a day — you can literally watch it grow," Tina Rosenberg writes in a great article in the New York Times last month describing the benefits of growing bamboo.
