i have been seeing it through a mystical eye ... whereas church steeples, mosques, temples, pagodas all have a distinct element pointing up (this is as much about the nature of the inner self and its bodily location as it is about "heaven") as a visual reminder of the nature of reality, so the chinese roofs effect the same intention, the building is set upon the earth, but curved back up to remind viewers/ users of the same thing .. and for sure, architects have been mystics in every culture.

A special thanks to my friend Joe Phillips who was with the artisans just about every day providing onsite support to the construction team. As I had expected, he became a true and loyal friend of the artisans and to the many volunteers. I would also be remiss if I did not acknowledge the incredible leadership and the endless coordination work and tireless efforts of Julia Freimund, our program manager. Julia took the initiative to do whatever was needed to help out the artisans. Throughout the project she has been an invaluable asset and friend to all. Thanks to all of the Chinese media, business and community leaders and family associations for supporting the Brick Campaign last month. We sold over 150 bricks to the Seattle Chinese family association, organizations, and community leaders. This is a great opportunity to donate to the building of the garden and to reserve a special granite stone to have your name in the garden. Many individuals are also reserving the granite pavers in memory of their loved ones as well as to get their names in the garden.
